About Food DJ Studio
Food DJ Studio is a one-person studio based in California, with a small circle of collaborators in art, music, and localization who help bring the game to life.Why "Food DJ"?
The name came from my husband. Cooking has always been an important expression of warmth and love for me. It's a practice I first learned about with my sisters and parents. It's so important to me that I'd say I have a habit of vividly remembering the food and drinks in my life —like a boba drink we tried to recreate during lockdown, or a soup a friend sent over when I was really sick, or a cherry pie my sister baked for Thanksgiving a few years back. The flavors, textures, feelings and ingredients stick with me for so long that I often try to recreate or remix them at home.One day my husband said, "You remix recipes and ideas with food like a DJ. A Food DJ!" It stuck. 🐣
(For the record: I have zero music skills. All remixes are strictly in the kitchen.)
That habit of holding onto a memory or trying new things through what you make with your hands is more or less what this studio exists to explore. By training I'm an engineer, but by lifelong compulsion, I'm an artist and a gamer. This game is where I can bring all of myself.
I'm making my first game Yummyvale on a simple belief: I find that there’s a lot of beauty that maybe goes under appreciated in the “normal” setting of our world. I wanted to make a game that celebrates and highlights these ordinary things that are actually magical and fulfilling in fun, creative ways. Basically, a love letter to, and a celebration of, being a person.
